Harar Children Project
There are more than 3,000 children living on the streets of the city of Harar, Ethiopia. In most cases their parents have died from AIDS. Approximately 15% are HIV positive. The government requires that they be assigned to an extended family member who usually is living on $3 a month. The only choice for the child is to basically live on the streets where they beg, sell gum, shine shoes, or do whatever will get enough money for the next meal. And, the next meal is something less than nutritious.
They go to bed every night with little or no food in their stomachs, no education like other children, and little to no social interaction with anyone. The day will come when they will be tempted to make choices that are immoral. And life will become even more complicated.
Now…there are fathers who know nothing about responsibility for children they have fathered. There are mothers who are not equipped in any way to care for the child they bring into the world. Prostitution may become a way of life. And, the end could very well be life as a victim of human trafficking.
It is the goal of Innovative Mission Opportunities to help them learn they are loved, they can make choices between right and wrong, and one day they can be leaders, even life changers, in Ethiopia.
You can help by committing to spend a week playing with these children, teaching them how to live a moral lifestyle, and helping them fulfill their dream for a better life.
You can also help with a generous donation and/or a commitment to become a monthly partner to change the world of the next generation of leaders in the country of Ethiopia.
